Big Ideas Grow

This week I have had several people ask me about goal
setting, and whether it is wise or unrealistic to dream and
set BIG goals.  They felt that by dreaming large it would have
them feel frustrated with where they are in life, and would only
set them up for failure when they did not achieve these new
goals.  So is it better to set goals that we know we can handle,
probably achieve, or feel comfortable with?

Only you can answer this for yourself.  There are many
approaches to goal setting/dream planning (various words and
terms are used to describe similar processes).  It is our
individual choice of how we set the direction that we would love
for our life.  I have mentioned several times throughout the
newsletters that I feel it is important to plan our life - not in a
controlling way, but from the perspective that if we are not
planning what we would love to see in our own life, who will?
This planning can take the form of goal setting.

When I think of planning, I love to think about as many
possibilities as I can imagine.  Likewise for goal setting.  If I
stick with what I know is achievable and manageable, this
is okay, yet I often feel empty. A new approach - to be wild
and unrealistic.  Big Ideas Grow.  They attract opportunities
and things into our lives that we may not have expected or
predicted.

This is tough when we are not feeling balanced, when we
question our own self worth, the days we are frustrated......
...then anything unrealistic will simply feel ridiculous or
impossible.  So let's not do our dreaming and planning on
these days.  These would be the days to simply follow or
remind ourselves of existing goals, but not set new
directions for ourselves.

It is imperative that we learn that where we are is where
we are meant to be.  This is the point for us to live.  By
being thankful for who we are, and where we are, it will
allow us to set our goals and plans for our future.  Today
is our experience for learning and growing.  If we set and
write our dreams and plan for the future it will help us grow
in that direction.  Planning BIG simply means dreaming,
and not being attached to the outcome.
